How CBD Can Help If You Have the Virus (Covid-19) – #CBDandMe

How can CBD help if you're suffering from the Covid-19 Virus

If you’re one of those special few who still believe the pandemic is a joke, I can only assume that through some sort of miscommunication or misconception you’re still not cognisant of the daily effects, rates and growth of Covid-19 everywhere you turn.

Covid-19 is not Government propaganda.  There may be a lot of misinformation out there, but the daily rate of the virus still continues to rise as it’s a very prevalent issue affecting many of our loved ones – family, friends, colleagues, and even strangers. So, let’s try to take the Virus seriously and do what we can to protect ourselves and those around us – remember the motto ‘Hands. Face. Space’.

Believe it or not, CBD has actually been considered as a potential treatment that might prevent, treat or cure the Virus.

Some researchers have looked into the potential that CBD may have in combating the deadly disease. It’s suggested that some of the properties in CBD (especially its ability to reduce ACE2 expression and pro-inflammatory cytokine production to help combat lung inflammation) may be beneficial. CBD is also being considered due to its potential as an antiviral as a therapeutic treatment for the Virus.

So why CBD and how does it work with the body to help fight the Virus? – Good question, and I hope to address this in the next following points.

  1. CBD is non-intoxicating with no abuse potential making it attractive as a possible antiviral agent.
  2. CBD has a wealth of anti-inflammatory properties which help to reduce the pro-inflammatory cytokine production that is caused by Covid-19 by reducing specific cytokines.
  3. CBD may positively impact ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) – a dangerous symptom in Covid-19 caused by an overactive inflammatory response.
  4. CBD may also be effective in reducing pulmonary fibrosis a common condition with Covid-19. This is where the lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred and or, there is a thickening of the lung tissue making breathing more difficult.
  5. CBD can reduce depression, insomnia, fear and anxiety.

There is more research required which looks into the benefits of CBD and how it affects our immune system response to Covid-19 specifically more research is required in testing this theory on actual human subjects with Covid-19 related ARDS.

Even with the Virus whether you’re experiencing mild symptoms or not, please remember to wash your hands regularly, use a face covering or face mask when social distancing is not possible and try to keep your distance from those not in your household. If you’re the only one within your household with the Virus, then be sure to self-isolate within the home, clean and disinfect every area you touch and most importantly respect the personal space of those around you.

The Virus affects everyone differently, so please try to stay at home to reduce the rate of infection.

How to fight Covid-19 at Home:

1. Do not lay on your back – try to sleep on your stomach or on your side.

  • Sleeping on your back will allow fluids to set in and could potentially smash your lungs.
  • If you’re sleeping on your stomach you’ll need to set the clock for every 2 hours to get out of bed and walk around for at least 15-30 minutes.
  • If you’re experiencing breathlessness, lay on your stomach with 1-2 pillows under your hips and a pillow to support your head. Keep in that position for up to 30 minutes whilst breathing evenly.

2. Keep active – walk around your home regularly, try some chest wall stretching. Moving your arms around frequently can help to open your lungs.

3. Breathing exercises – if you are experiencing shortness of breath try some breathing exercises in help increase your oxygen level. Try to regularly breathe through your nose and out through your mouth. You can also try some diaphragmatic breathing in a 90/90 position, or quadruped breathing.

4. Update your eating and drinking habits – there are certain types of food that help the body if you’re suffering from Covid-19. For example, eat foods that provide natural potassium and try to constantly stay hydrated – try some electrolyte water.

5. Get some well deserved rest and stay in touch with your doctor if your symptoms worsen or refuse to get better. Call NHS 111 for more information and help.
